It seems like often when we purchase a single slice of cake, we may not be disclosing to our significant others that we’ll be eating, or have eaten... cake. In fact, we may not even admit it to ourselves. Is it a heist? Is it culinary adultery? It’s definitely one of the seven deadly sins. This personal project is dedicated to the single slice crime scene. We’re all guilty.
This is a series I conceptualized, styled and shot recently alone at home during quarantine. In my more “normal” work, I'm always concerned with "pretty light" and this was a welcome challenge to forgo that standard in the name of recreating the familiar pop culture look of a crime scene with harsh on-camera light and rapid falloff at the corners of the frame. With an eye towards playing with selective color saturation and desaturation in the final edit, the "crunch" of heightened clarity and sharpening, as well as incorporating color toning in the shadows, it was fun to still work with all the other pieces that make an image complete: composition, color, purpose and styling details.
